Further to its work on the National Citizen Survey 2022-23 and the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI) 2023, Citra was able to contribute to the upcoming Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) 2025 conducted by the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS). The HIES, drawing from a nationally representative sample of 25,000 households, is considered one of the most useful national data collection exercises, often forming the basis for poverty analysis for both the Government and development partners.
Given that the last HIES was conducted in 2019, Citra was able to contribute towards adding and updating new indicators to the survey schedule, with respect to household debt, digital, employment, and disasters, with technical inputs from partners working in these respective areas.
Citra was also able to work with the DCS on ensuring that the data captured in the HIES 2025 could be used to calculate an official national MVI for the first time, allowing for Sri Lanka to track its progress in addressing multidimensional vulnerabilities at the district level.
